pened to be in Sedona, Arizona,
recently, and stopped to see Mel and
Barbara Rycus. They told me that in
one of your columns, you had men-
tioned Scholnick's and asked what had
happened to it.
"My dad died several years back
and my brother Ivan headed the firm.
With the demise of Washington
Boulevard in downtown Detroit, the
store did not do well. Northland was
not its location of choice either. So
Ivan decided to close the business and
entered real estate. That's where he is
today and lives in Birmingham. My
older brother, Morton, also lives in
Birmingham and has been a developer
for years.
"I live in Tempe and teach public
relations on a part-time basis in the
Maricopa Community College system
here. I also consult in public relations
and marketing matters and occasional-
ly will continue to do some interior
design work around the country."
