The 148th annual meeting of
Temple Beth El was the occasion for
the election of Marion Freedman as
temple president.
Director of the
Neighborhood
Project, a pro-
gram of the
Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan
Detroit, she for-
merly served
Temple Beth El
as vice president
Marion Freedman
and treasurer. A
past co-chair of
the congregation's Leadership
Development Committee and past
co-chair of Ways and Means, she has
served on other committees includ-
ing Religious School, Rabbinic
Search, Retreat Planning and
Membership. In 1985, she became
one of the first temple adult bat
mitzvahs.
Elected to serve with Freedman
are Alan A. May, first vice president;
David F. Simon, second vice presi-
dent; Dennis N. Frank, treasurer;
and Sanford H. Passer, secretary.
Newly-elected members of the board
of trustees include Dr. Robert Blau,
Mark Canvasser, Julian Greenebaum,
David Handleman, Gerald Levin, Jo
Ann Nyquist, Patrice Phillips, Nancy
Rands, Dr. Norman Rotter and Lee
"Buzz" Turner. Elected to serve on
the Nominating Committee are
Guido Aidenbaum, Patti Kommel,
Fredrick Simon and Henry
Wineman II.

Emanu-El
Elects New Officers

Temple Emanu-El elected this year's
officers and trustees. Officers are
president, Glenn Lebowitz; financial
vice president, Barry Silverstein;
administrative vice president, Robert
Olender; education vice president,
Bruce Gordon; membership and pro-
gramming vice president, Alan
Kessler; religious vice president,
Jennifer Wolin Patterson;
secretary/treasurer, Beth Applebaum;
immediate past president, John E.
Jacobs.
Three new trustees were elected to
served a two-year term on the board:
Joseph Imberman, Susan Sherbow
and Debra Holzman Silver. They
join the newly re-elected trustees, all
of whom will also serve a two-year
term: Jeffrey Bean, Jane Hauser,
William Hoffman, Mark Kaploe,
Barbara Nurenberg and Richard
Selik.
Board members who are complet-
ing the second year of their term
include Howard Collens, Elaine C.
Driker, Joel Hearshen, Kevin Lewis,
Mitch Meisner, Arnold Mikon,
Steven Permut, Howard Rosen and
Richard Zussman.

Mitzvah Day
For Congregants

Temple Emanu-El_has proclaimed
Sunday, July 26, as Mitzvah Day.
Congregants are welcome to partici-
pate in the temple's first clean-up,
fix-up, paint and plant event and
share in the joy of performing a
mitzvah. From -9 a.m. to 5 p.m., a
variety of projects that need atten-
tion will be available to choose from.
No skill is necessary.
Wear work clothes and be ready to
