(248) 352-7030 Clement uprooted the land's native Arabs, rather like European immigration and colonialism uprooted the America's native Indians. False. The mantra phrase "the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people" refers both to real rights and to a real people — to a nation or at least a genuinely distinct ethnicity. False again, on all counts. Mr. Boschwitz thinks it strange that these peace partners seem so little inter- ested in peace with Israel. That's funny, since Palestinianism is so plainly just Zionism turned inside out, the total antithesis of Zionism. There is no Pales- tinian national identity except in opposi- tion to Israel. It was knowingly created and strenuously nurtured to completely cancel it out. It doesn't exist for the good of any people, least of all the so-called Palestinians, but for the utter destruc- tion of Jewish Israel. It can't come to terms with the Jewish cause any more than we could ever come to terms with history's last Philistines. Michael Dallen Chair, Americans for a Safe Israel of Detroit Israel Comments Were Misdirected In Neil Rubin's pointed comments on the "irrelevant military maps" and the need to turn "toward spiritual matters" in Israel ("Oy, Bibi, Not Again" June 26), he avoids the facts, relying on humor and misdirection. Nowhere does Mr. Rubin say what "irrelevant military maps" of Judea- Samaria and Jerusalem look like and why Arab maps are any better. Further, "spiritual matters," which Mr. Rubin is more concerned with than land that is going to be sacrificed to Yassir Arafat, revolve around traditional-Reform issues, discussion of which brings great dispute in Israel and America. But Mr. Rubin assumes that because he is an editor, readers will adopt his viewpoint. Indeed, in a less than brilliant obser- vation, Rubin notes that "ruling the lives of more than 1.5 million Palestinians corrupts Jewish values, sucking the ener- gy needed to redefine Jewish identity ..." Would Mr. Rubin have used the same excuse in 1948, when Jews were dying in Nazi Germany and praying and fight- ing for Israel to survive? Many Jews, like Neil Rubin, may have said, "There are too many Arabs to let us live in Israel." And that is always true. Madeleine Albright is an example of millions who live here but support Israel in its sacrifice for the peace process. She knows that surrendering part of the holy land, regardless of how gentle or law- abiding Arafat may be, goes against God's written commandment and Israeli military advice. She stands against. Yet commandment and military say that either the whole land is Jewish or Arab. There is nothing in between except war. Negotiations with Yassir Arafat, regardless of Netanyahu (Likud) or Barak's (Labor) position, are futile, indeed suicidal. Arabs know that, given Judea-Samaria and eastern Jerusalem, the war for the remainder (Tel Aviv, Haifa and Beersheva) will be immediate. Indeed, every Arab knows that the land is indivisible. But not the Jew because, like Rubin, horrible surrender of land means a good peace with Arabs. So Israel is assumed to turn over the heart of Jerusalem, the Temple Mount that the Arabs have had (contrary to Jewish will) and the entire Judea-Samarian dis- trict because it is too much work and effort to throw the Arabs out of the land. It was true in 1948, and it is true in 1998. Either the Arab is moved to east- em Palestine (Jordan) or he will (with Europe and yes, the American presiden- cy) destroy the Jews in his effort to cre- ate a Palestine on the face of Israel.
