blindly ahead, repeating the mantra that they believe in the process, that they trust Mr. Arafat and that they think that Clinton-Albright and Co. are depend- able trustees. From the very beginning of the ele- vation of the PLO and its minions to the rank of Israel's peace partners, Mr. Arafat has failed to keep a single one of his promises. Five times, he has assured the world that the PLO would rescind the 33-article PLO covenant of 1968 that pledges itself to Israel's destruction. In the very week in which he made his first pledge, on Sept. 9, 1993, he issued a statement to the Arab press repeating his blood-and-fire assurances that he would destroy Israel. Each time that Yasser Arafat has received any land from the Israelis, he has indulged in speeches to his followers that incite them to fury. Mr. Arafat has never once said "thank you" to the Israelis for anything that has been surrendered. He now holds eight cities, constituting more than 30 percent of Judea, Samaria and Gal i More than 95 percent of the Arabs of those territories now live under the PLO flag, outside of Israeli control. With the aid of President Clinton and Secretary Albright, Mr. Arafat demands an additional 13 percent of the land as a mere down payment. He looks forward to getting 30 percent more on the next go-round. Even then, the end is not in sight, as he expects to get more than 90 percent of the land and all of east Jerusalem as part of the final peace settlement. Mr. Netanyahu has screwed his nerve to the sticking point and said "No." The Israelis want to get the final settlement completed in one step, and have assured their people that Mr. Arafat will not get the huge reward that he claims. Mr. Netanyahu has begun to present his indictment of Mr. Arafat's totally undependable behavior as a peace part- ner. The Israelis, on their side, have been forced to suspend the pledges that they made under Oslo to allow the Palestin- ian Authority to build an airport and a seaport. Israel has not been able to obtain the most minimal assurances that heavy weapons would not be imported. These charges are only the barely minimal indictment that can be brought against Mr. Arafat's minions. Incredibly, those American Jews who still profess confidence in the "peace process" and who believe in the friend- ship of President Clinton and Secretary Albright are naive beyond belief. ❑ , /—/ We offer more than just window coverings 30" • Sci 24' Roy* 89.9& value $165 30" Roy* $99. ..98.th value 5185 i 24" SO w/swivel sea 59 .98each Walled Lk/Novi value 5140 30"Solid Oak* $69.98.6 33800 14 Mile Rd.
