Bar/Bat Mitzvahs

Danielle Kelly
Danielle Chassin-Kelly, daughter of
Lynne Chassin-Kelly and Jeff Kelly,
will be called to the Torah when she
celebrates her bat
mitzvah at Tem-
ple Israel on Sat-
urday, July 18.
Proud grandpar-
ents are Phyllis
and Burton Chas-
sin and Sharon
and Rick Kelly;
she is also the
great-grand-
daughter of Frances Oja and sister of
Aaron Kelly.
Residing in Sitka, Alaska provides a
different way of living Jewishly. There
are about 60-70 Jewish people in their
area, with no rabbi, so any Jewish
holiday and/or life-cycle event is cause
for a community celebration. Danielle
works closely with the younger chil-
dren in the Hebrew school, teaching
them the four questions for Passover,
helping with arts and crafts projects,
e.g., making miniature sukkot for the
holiday of Sukkot. She also wrote a
Purim play for the area teens, involv-
ing all of the children and played the
trumpet for a Klezmer band.
She is involved in drama, taking
part in school plays, and sings in the
choir. She enjoys softball, basketball,
volleyball and runs cross country.
Danielle also writes poetry and partic-
ipates in Poets Against Poverty. She
helped send books through the Peace
Corps to Nepal and Africa.
