Grant to JARC expands respite help for parents
whose children need constant attention.

m

ast month, Gayle Goldberg
and Randy Michel were
searching for someone to
relieve them from the round-
the-clock care their 5-year-old son
Matthew requires now that he's on
summer break. They called Jewish
Association for Residential Care.
Respite care-worker Dale Dillard
was able to provide them with a
much-needed break. She works every
day with Matthew, who suffers from
attention deficit and hyperactivity dis-
order.
"He attached to Dale instantly,"
said Goldberg, who uses the service
every day. "She's been wonderful."
That verdict is shared by.a dozen
families that have come to rely on the
respite care program, created last April
under the Merle and Shirley Harris
Children and Family Division.
"We've always appreciated the work
JARC's done," Shirley Harris said. "We
recognize the importance of the need
in the community for this, and that
there aren't a lot of resources for it."

only positive feed-

had budgeted eight
hours a month for 30
families, but some are
