Geneen Roth offers her personal experiences and insights from a lifetime of fluctuating between bingeing and diet obsessions in a way that is neither haughty nor preachy. In lieu of typical diet guru advice, Roth explores the psychological and societal reasons behind women's obses- sion with body image. This book isn't only for those with weight problems, though. In exploring the companion emotions to "feeling fat," such as "feel- ings of being incompetent, unattrac- tive, unworthy, out of control, value- less (and) invisible," Roth speaks to every woman struggling to accept herself. Pull Up a Chair is brimming with humorous anecdotes and rational insight. Primarily, Roth addresses the reality that fashion magazines and diet gurus don't: Every woman is different and the natural state of our bodies is a dif- ference to revel in, not fight against.
