regation; he also was president of his
synagogue for 10 years and would put
that fact on his campaign posters,

was picking blackberries. Usually the
only Jew in his class, he'd have to pre-
sent "the meaning of Yom Kippur"
after missing school on the holiday.

Although anti-Semitism was pre-
sent, in an interview he also speaks
