battle this Fourth of July week-
end? Visitor information is

Gettysburg Convention and
Visitors Bureau, (717) 334-

For re-enactors who take
part in battle, a few of the offi-
cial safety rules to keep in
mind:
• No one under age 13
allowed on the battlefield.
• Weapons should be slight-
ly elevated when firing.
• No live ammunition at a
re-enactment site for any rea-
son.
• No attempt to take an
enemy flag unless previously
arranged.
• No unauthorized hand-to-
hand combat.
• No mounted personnel to
ride through infantry camps.
• No pets.

doubt be skeptics out there who see
Civil War re-enacting as merely a
bunch of grown-up kids running
around waving guns. In some cases,
at least, they are right.
"As you stay in it longer, the bat-
tles become the least important part,
but that's initially what drives most
guys into it. We enjoy carrying the
