In November 1997, The Detroit Symphony Orchestra gave Elaine Lebenbom the world pre- miere of her piece Kaleidoscope Turning. North/South Records has recently issued a new CD containing Lebenbom's Piano Sonata. Ms. Lebenbom studied composi- tion with Karl Haas, Ruth Wylie, Evelyn Gurvitch and Leslie Bassett. She has both bachelor's and master's degrees in Composition from the University of Michigan. Her works have been performed throughout the United States and most recently at Merkin Hall in New York. She is currently preparing a major Holocaust piece for presenta- tion in New York in the spring of 1999. Norman Naimark of Farmington Hills was reelected regional vice pres- ident of the Labor Zionist Alliance in the United States. Naimark, who also serves as a board member on the 9.4 Detroit LZA Council and the Michigan Region of the American . Zionist Movement, was a board member of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and the Jewish Community Council, where he chaired the Public Affairs and Holocaust committees. He also chaired Congregation Shaarey Zedek's public affairs committee and was a board member of the Interfaith 1■ 4 Actions Center.
