Elaine Lebenbom of West
Bloomfield has received a composi-
tion award from the American
Society of
Composers and
Publishers
(ASCAP), recog-
nizing her
achievements in
composition. In
November 1997,
The Detroit
Symphony
Orchestra gave
Elaine Lebenbom
the world pre-
miere of her
piece Kaleidoscope Turning.
North/South Records has recently
issued a new CD containing
Lebenbom's Piano Sonata.
Ms. Lebenbom studied composi-
tion with Karl Haas, Ruth Wylie,
Evelyn Gurvitch and Leslie Bassett.
She has both bachelor's and master's
degrees in Composition from the
University of Michigan.
Her works have been performed
throughout the United States and
most recently at Merkin Hall in New
York. She is currently preparing a
major Holocaust piece for presenta-
tion in New York in the spring of
1999.
Galina Gesina of Oak Park won the
Bessie Grossman Steinberg Memorial
Scholarship Award from the Hebrew

Norman Naimark of Farmington
Hills was reelected regional vice pres-
ident of the Labor Zionist Alliance
in the United States. Naimark, who

member of the Jewish Federation of
