Zadereytskaia, who also plays
organ at the Greek Orthodox
church to which she belongs, began
music school when she was 6 and
living in the Ukraine, and she
stayed with it through college and
conservatory.
"I worked at a musical college as
a conductor, teaching others to con-
duct as well;" she said
She her husband and their two
sons came to Michigan from the
Ukraine last August and she started
working at Fleischman shortly
thereafter. Seeing others being invit-
ed to perform, she told Myrna Katz,
Fleischman's programming director,
about her, background, and in
November Katz started scheduling
her to perform regularly.
Some performances, however, are
impromptu. "At times when she's
working, she may spontaneously
head to the piano to play," Katz
said. "The residents have absolutely
loved her."

She sings in English and Latin, as
well as her native Russian.
"Because I learned in many lan-
guages, its not difficult for me to
sing in them," she said Its cer-
tainly easier for me to perform in
Russian, and many residents
understand it, but I can do
English."
Although she said she tries to
play popular music, her favorites are
classical Russian romances, which
she featured at her most recent per-
formance. She opened with four
instrumental songs, then pulled the
microphone close for six more
tunes, ending with her favorite,
"Black Eyes."
"We all appreciate that she gives
her time and talent to play for us,"
said Fleischman resident Frieda
Kates.
Fellow resident Max Sosin
agreed. "It's nice to have talented
staff," he said.
