comedy set in a concentration camp.
While this Miramax International
release (no date presently is set for
Detroit) is not Cinema Paradiso or II
Postino, its daring Chaplinesque fable
of romance, farce and the power of
make-believe to strengthen the human
spirit captured the audience and
received a 15-minute ovation at its
screening.
Benigni combines slapstick, satire,
–octal commentary and a touch of the
surreal into a uniquely moving story
of both romantic and parental love.
Ultimately, it was Benigni's film
that shocked, moved and delivered to
the participants at this year's Cannes -
Film Festival a breath of fresh air in an
otherwise benign selection of interna-
tional films.
With films like La Vie Est Belle,
annes can remind us that life is
beautiful and that some films, even
one film, are worth the trip.

Spend Father's Day Weekend with the PC Dads, two hip cowboys committed
to helping lasso non-techie families into computer savvy consumers.

Just in time for the Fourth of July,
or any other time this summer is
American Album. The CD, newly
released by Delos, includes Copland's
"Hoe Down" from Rodeo, Appalachian
t:pring and Fanfare for the Common
Man; Gershwin's An A _ merican in Paris
and Rhapsody in Blue; Grofe's "On the
Trail" from Grand Canyon Suite; the
"Star Spangled Banner," arranged by
Donald Fraser; and Sousa's The Stars
and Stripes Forever:
Performances are rendered by the
Seattle Symphony Orchestra, with
Conductor Gerard Schwartz; the
'Dallas Symphony Orchestra, with
Conductor/Pianist Andrew Litton;
Keith Brian and his New Sousa Brass
Bard; and the Miller Brass Band.
American from head to toe. Lots of
big and thrilling noise from the brass
bands. All orchestras do a first-class
job with the standards — Gershwin,
Grofe, Copland — and Andrew
Litton turns in a very competent read-
7 Png of Rhapsody in Blue. Splendid
Delos sound.
Hey, you don't like this? You proba-
bly don't like your mama or apple pie.
