"Subversion and Self-Defense: Humor
as a Therapeutic Response to
Oppression" will be the subject of
Rabbi Aaron Bergman's Latte &
Learning session 10-11 a.m. Monday,
July 6, at Borders Books & Music,
30995 Orchard Lake Road in
Farmington Hills, part of an eight
week summer study series tracing the
history of Jewish humor and spon-
sored by Eilu Eilu, the adult Jewish
learning project.
Tuition is $7 per session ($5 for
member of the sponsoring organiza-
tions). No reservations are necessary.
Each session is self-contained and can
be attended independently of the oth-
ers.

Honors Zieves

"Lights, Camera, Action..." is the
theme for a tribute summer's eve party
sponsored by the Detroit Chapter of
The American Jewish Committee to
be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at
the Meyer Prentis home in Palmer
Woods.

Following the musical entertain-
ment of songs from Hollywood films
and a strolling supper, the AJC will
present evening honorees, Mary Lou
and Mort Zieve, with the Institute of
Human Relations Distinguished
Jewish Community Service Award.
Mary Lou Zieve is the president of
the Detroit Historical Society. She is
an honorary Life Member of the
Karmanos Cancer Institute Board of
Trustees, chairperson of the advisory
board of Wayne State University Press,
and on the boards of the Interfaith
Round Table of National Conference,
the Michigan Historical Center
Foundation in Lansing, and Eton
Academy.
Through the Simons Michelson
Zieve advertising agency of which he
is chairman, Mort Zieve has lent his
expertise pro bono to the Michigan
Opera Theatre, Wayne State
University, Temple Beth El, JET, and
many other organizations. Mort is the
co-chair of Detroit's official Annual
Birthday Party and is on the mayor's
committee to structure the 300th
birthday of the city in 2001.

include the writer and network televi-
sion commentator Neal Gabler. For
