Jacobs, Myron Milgrom and Robert
Steinberg.
Last year, $40,000 was raised by the
invitational ... This year, according to
Gary Sallen, co-chairman with Dan
Passman, the figure is expected to
reach the six-figure mark.
The money goes to the Hank
Greenberg Oncology Fund at DMC-
Sinai Hospital in the fight against can-
cer.
Food was both outside and inside,
with stations positioned all over Tam
... Then into the dining room for
dessert, coffee and highly entertaining
ceremonies with baseball broadcasting
Hall of Famer Joe Garagiola given the
Hank Greenberg Lifetime Achieve-
ment Award.
Dick Schaap was as usual a very
witty emcee ... and the place was liter-
ally filled with celebrities from the
world of sports ... At our table alone,
with Mickey Fishman, who'll be one
of the inductees at the MJSHOF 14th
annual induction dinner Nov. 2, were
Eddie Rosenberg, Elayne Wolfson
(when she wasn't running around) and
Jim Berke, Dolph Shayes, Hall of
Fame basketball great; Jerry Kramer,
former Green Bay Packers star; and
Harmon Killebrew, Hall of Fame base-
ball legend.
THE BREAK that has come Dr.
Milton White's way may be a mighty
huge one for humanity ... Milt's con-
stant cancer research .... and his pub-
lished letters ... have finally gotten the
recognition they deserve.
As a result, instead of exploration
without use of many essential modern
tools, Milt is being given the facilities
at Wayne State University to continue
work on his extremely important cru-
sade.
MAIL DEPT. ... From Irving
Handelman ... "I started going, like
clockwork, to Alex's Restaurant, 2685
W. 12 Mile Road, between Coolidge
and Greenfield, Tuesdays for the veg-
etable soup and Thursdays for their
mushroom barley soup. "Their veg-
etable soup is always served with a
heaping amount of vegetables stick-
ing out of the bowl and the mush-
room barley soup is not just a lot of
barley and small bits of mushrooms.
It's loaded with mushrooms and is
delicious."
ITT BE MORE than just another
wedding when Julie Bramson and Dr.
Steven Zalla are wed Aug. 9 at Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek.
The date wasn't planned this way,
having to take Shaarey Zedek's avail-
ability, but how it falls out will take
