are truly wealthy, for we have been
exposed to the wealth of our her-
itage. We are enthused with our
Torah knowledge, and now we must
be prepared to share that wealth. We
feel confident that we are well pre-
pared to successfully showcase our
values and compete in the market-
place of ideas. 'We know that a solid
Jewish education is vital to insure
Jewish survival. In recognition of its
importance, our class has dedicated
its yearbook to the founders of
Akiva, who had the foresight to
establish a school dedicated to pro-
viding an education that is both
Judaic and secular in scope within
the framework of Mizrachi Religious
Zionism. As future alumni, we feel
confident that this institution will
remain steadfast in its commitment
to the tenets of modern Orthodoxy.
This is the only sure foundation
upon which to build.
Helen Keller once said that "sci-
ence may have found a cure for most
evils, but it has found no remedy for
the worst of them all —•the apathy
of human beings." As a chapter in
our lives closes and the rest of our
lives begin, we must go forth with
the knowledge that each one of us
can make a difference if only we
make an effort. We may feel power-
less and think that we have no real
say in the future, but we do. Many
of us here have already had a chance
to make a difference when we were
able to travel to Poland to join thou-
sands of others on the March of the
Living and again on our senior trip
to Israel, where we participated in
the March of the Living alumni
reunion. We showed the world that
we are here — am Yisrael chai (the
people Israel lives).
As Israel turns 50 and is embark-
ing on a very crucial phase in its his-
tory, we must be vocal in our opin-
ions, but our opinions must be edu-
cated ones. Voice your opinions
using the words of the wisdom from
Pirkei Avot as a lifelong guide.
On behalf of my classmates, I
would like to extend sincere appreci-
ation to all of our families, teachers
and friends who have supported us
and are here with us today. Most of
all, I would like to thank my parents.
Their confidence in me along with
their guidance and encouragement
have always been an inspiration.
Our lives will always be influenced
by the learning and friendships
that began at Akiva Hebrew Day
School.
