Local Columnist

T

he Sinai Heritage Ball com-
mittee held a kickoff meet-
ing to finalize plans for
their upcoming Monday,
Oct. 19, event at the Ritz Carlton.
More than 50 volunteers attended the
meeting, which was held at Dottie
Gerson's home in Franklin.
This year's proceeds will benefit
Sinai educational programs and treat-
ment for cancer. The committee hopes
to purchase the Leopard Ultrasound
Scanner Type 2001, specifically
designed for surgeons and urologists.

Rose Rita Goldman (seated), Hope Sil-
verman, Marlene Gropman, Pearlena
Bodzin and Sandy Schwartz are cheer-
leaders for the Sinai Heritage Ball.

"With this machine we can hope to
achieve and maintain Sinai Hospital as
state-of-the-art for breaking therapy
for prostate cancer," said Dr. Michael
Lutz, chief of urology for the north-
west region of the Detroit Medical
Center.
Mark Schlussel, former chairman
of the Sinai Hospital Board, also
addressed the committee. Hope Sil-
verman, co-chair of the ball, intro-
duced Rose Rita Goldman, president
of the Sinai Heritage Ball. The other
ball co-chairmen, Pearlena Bodzin,
Sandy Schwartz and Marlene Grop-
man, also explained the many ball vol,
unteer positions.
At one point during the meeting,
Leah Snider broke the format and
spontaneously thanked Dottie Ger-
son and Marge Jospey for hosting
the first patron event seven years
ago; it attracted 250 patrons. This

year's patron event will be held
Thursday, Oct. 8, at Knollwood
Country Club. For more informa-
tion, call (313) 493-6205.
