At The JPM

The Agency for Jewish Education's Jew-
ish Experiences for Families and the
JPM Jewish Community Center will
host "A Sefer Safari Extravaganza" 3-5
p.m. Sunday, June 28 at the JPM
building.
Participants will see the PuppetArt
Company perform Close The Window, a
Russian folktale, and create special Jew-
ish book crafts. In addition, families
with children of preschool age through
second grade can join the Sefer Safari
Family Reading Program, which
encourages parents and their children
to share Jewish books, become
acquainted with libraries located in
congregations and Federation agencies,
and begin to build Jewish libraries of
their own at home.
The extravaganza is free of charge.

The program for the afternoon will
be a video on Israeli music. Also there
will be a raffle drawing. The year-end
report will be given by Evelyn Noveck,
council president.
There is no charge for the meeting
and refreshments will be served.

The Michigan Jewish War Veterans and
Ladies Auxiliary will kick off its 57th
annual convention with the presenta-
tion of 25 college scholarships in a spe-
cial Shabbat service 7:30 p.m. Friday,
June 26, at the Jewish War Veterans
Memorial Home.
The scholarships are awarded to area
students on the basis of accomplish-
ment and need without regard to race
or religion.
Convention activities will continue
10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, with a
Jewish War Veteran recognition service
at Temple Israel. Retiring State Com-
mander Iry Marshall and Auxiliary
President Florence Weber will be hon-
ored during a 6:30 p.m. banquet that
evening at the Memorial Home.
Fallen comrades and sisters will be
remembered at a memorial service
10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 28, followed
by the business portion of the conven-
tion including election of officers.
