DETROIT
JEWISH NEWS

N

Singers from the Michigan Opera Theatre and Beth Shalom Youth Choir
drew the spotlight June 7 in an evening of Andrew Lloyd Webber music to
benefit Congregation Beth Shalom's new educational center.
"We were very pleased with the community response," said Alicia R. Nel-
son, who coordinated the benefit performance.
About 500 people attended and about $15,000 was raised.
The new educational center is under construction with a target opening
date of September. It will include a nursery and religious school with 14
classrooms as well as a media center.
The project is pegged "at more than $1 million," said Barbara Cook,
Beth Shalom's executive director.
