The Jewish Federation of Metropoli-
tan Detroit announced that Judah
Isaacs, its senior planning associate,
will become the interim executive
director of the Agency for Jewish
Education, replacing Howard
Gelberd, who left for a position in
California this week.
The Federation also announced the
promotion of Marc Berke from Cam-
paign associate to director of the
Young Adult Division. He succeeds
James Rosenberg, who has accepted a
position with the Jewish Community
Federation of Cleveland. Joan Berger,
Federation senior staff associate in the
Community Outreach and Education
Department, is heading for New York
to marry a rabbinical student.
Tamarack Camps teen trip staffers and
supervisors spent a few weeks in
Israel last month to soak up a little
culture and prepare themselves for
the onslaught of campers Sunday.
Rick Oren, director of develop-
ment, said the purpose of the May
17-29 trip was to enrich staffers'
Jewish identity and to "enhance
the Jewish flavor of the camp." He
said most of the 30 supervisors
and staff members had never been
to Israel.

region, a city that is part of Detroit
Jewish Federation's Partnership 2000
program.

Week June 21-28, the Union of
Orthodox Jewish Congregations of
America is offering a free guide to
help synagogues become more helpful
to people with vision and hearing dis-
abilities.
The guide, "Strategies for Inclu-
sion: Creating a
Synagogue That is
Blind/Deaf Friend-
ly," is available by
calling the OU at

The guide was
produced to com-
memorate the
birth of Helen
Keller on June 27,
1880.
With a gift of $1.2
million, the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit
established the Sol Drachler Chair in
Jewish Communal Service at the Uni-
versity of Michigan's School of Social
Work. The honor, named for the past
executive vice-president of the Federa-
tion, was presented at the United Jew-
ish Foundation's annual meeting June
11 at Temple Shir Shalom in West
Bloomfield. U-M President Lee
Bollinger was the keynote speaker.
