"Schindler's List," bottom (1993).

"I don't know what I do that's dif-
ferent, but I do know the most impor-
tant thing for me is that an idea has to
start [in] my heart and stomach, not
in my mind or in my eyes.
"I think that ideas are too intellec-
tual if they're just for the mind and
too visceral if they're just for the eyes.
Those things are incredibly important,
but an idea must hit emotionally.
I think that is a Jewish thing."
As Smith talked to the people
appearing on the show, he found that
many were so attracted to certain films
that they saw them over and over
again. His five children — two now

entertainment industry — did that,
