Elizabeth Applebaum AppleTree Editor FYI: Meet Miss Bourn ... Everyone who knows anything about television remembers one of the most intellectually stimulating programs ever aired. Created by Aaron Spelling himself, it was called "Char- lie's Angels," and it told the adven- tures of three hard-working detectives who — wow, what a coincidence! just happened to be at the beach or getting into a hot tub (crime is rampant at these places, you know) H. and so had to be in a bikini at least once each episode. The first cast of this incredible pro- gram included Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson, who now makes some really memorable car commercials for Lincoln-Mercury (or, as she calls it, "Lincoln-Merkery"). But that cast didn't last long. Farrah was soon replaced by Cheryl Ladd, then Kate left, then came Shellee, and then somebody Jewish. Yes, in yet another FYI discovery that makes us all proud to be Jewish, I'm glad to report that Tanya Roberts, Charlie's last angel, was indeed the daughter of a Jewish mother (her father was Irish). In fact, Tanya Boum, as she was known back then, was born in 1954 and raised in Da Bronx. Tanya worked as a dance teacher and model while she studied acting with Lee Strasberg. After appearing in a number of commercials, she ('; moved to Hollywood where she had bit roles on several failed TV pilots. Then came Charlie in 1976, and Tanya's big break. Tragically, "Charlie's Angels" ended less than a year after Tanya I joined the cast. No one blamed her ) alone, although earlier some "observers" put forth the theory that the show's "magic" was jinxed after the sacred formula of two brunettes (Smith, Jackson) plus one blonde (Fawcett) was changed (Jackson's replacement was blond). So you would think bringing another brunette, which Tanya certainly was, would have brought back the glory days of "Charlie's Angels," right? But let's not linger on the show's demise. It's just too painful. Anyway, after "Charlie" was canceled, Tanya Roberts (she got the "Roberts" part from her husband, Barry) went on to I star in some really swell films like The I Beastmaster and Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, her last great movie, in 1984. We haven't seen much of Tanya lately, but we can hope, can't we, that she'll follow in the footsteps of that other astonishing talent, for- 1 mer "Three's Company" actress Jenilee Harrison, and start making some cool infomercials. ./ FYI: Along came a spider ... You've heard the cliche about those das- tardly fellows who spin their evil webs? But did you know . the e Torah said it first? Isaiah /59:5-6 compares the wicked designs of those who plot against righteous souls to the web the spider spins to catch insects. El Winston Tropitone Lloyd/Flanders Boutique LaneNenture L M.
