On the occasion of the "Israel at 50"
Dessert Reception 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
evening, June 16, Hy Berkowitz,
founder and president of Rogers
Department Store and Grand Rapids
civic and communal leader, will be
honored by the State of Israel, Tem-
ple Emanuel, Congregation Ahavas
Israel and many friends and associ-
ates.
Berkowitz has demonstrated active
service to Grand Rapids and its citi-
zens. He was named Business Person
of the Year in 1993 by the Economic
Club of Grand Rapids. He has
actively supported Grand Valley Star,
University and was the first recipient
of the Hugh Michael Beahan
Humanitarian Award for his many
philanthropic endeavors over the
years. He has received Honorary
Doctorates from Aquinas College
and from Davenport College, where
he is an Emeritus member of its
Board of Directors.

THE WORLD'S GREAT STORYTELLERS..

The June program of Shaarey Zedek
Productions features two people
whose main concern is the welfare of
the State of Israel.
Dr. Jerry S. Kaufman is the presi-
dent of the Zionist Organization of
America in this area. He is a retired
ophthalmologist and devotes his time
to working for the safety and security
of the Jewish state. Geri Levit, host and
producer of the telecast, interviews Dr.
Kaufman about his past and his dreams
for the Zionist Organization.
The second part of the television
program presents an interview with
Yael Waxman, the representative to
the Detroit metropolitan area from
the State of Israel.

The Henry and Delia Meyers Memo-
rial Library in the Kahn JCC
expanded its Jewish mystery and
intrigue section with the acquisition
of about 150 recently published titles
through a gift from Barbara and
Douglas Bloom. The Blooms also
added 30 new titles to the library's
children's collection.

Room Dedication

Philanthropist Melvin Kepes recent-
ly dedicated a new hospital room at
Bikur Cholim Hospital in
Jerusalem in memory of his wife
Inez. Accompanying Mel were 15
relatives and friends. Pictured are

tor; Yitzchak Mulkin, assistant to
public relations director; and
