Jewish Living In Metro

On May 15, I saw an article in The Jew-
ish News on "Emerging Artists at JCC."
I've always been interested in art and
so I attended on May 21 and, to my
surprise and delight, I found the show-
ing marvelous. I was, and am, proud to
D see so much talent among our Jewish
people.
I was most interested in the paintings
called "The Homeless" and found them
emotionally overwhelming.
The other works of artists were very
good, but I like "Homeless" by R Barris
the best.

Give Complete
Information

I write in response to the "opinion"
which appeared in your June 5 issue
titled "For This We Yearned? Let's
Rethink Jewish Identity."
The title has absolutely nothing to
do with the opinion which, in journalis-
tic terms, can best be described as a
"stream of consciousness" diatribe,
which rails against a lot of things that
the writer, an Orthodox rabbi, decided
to complain about.
Since the original column appeared
in the Jerusalem Post, would it have been
possible for The Jewish News to publish
some information that would permit
your readers to know what Rabbi
Rosenblum is complaining about?
To the average reader, it would sug-
gest that no other opinions appeared in
the Jerusalem Post (which I find very
hard to believe), and the writer was fill-
ing up space to get a large number of
comments off his chest.
The title might more correctly ask
whether Jewish "identity" has any
meaning in these closing years of the
20th century.
Also, would it have been too much
trouble to identify who Mr. Said and
Mr. Levy are? [Editor's note: Yossi Sarid is
leader of the liberal secular Meretz Party
which has representation in the Knesset.
Yitzhak Levy is Israel minister of educa-
tion].
In the future, if you have to print
items from any Israeli publications,
could you at least include some infor-
mation that would let your readers have
some idea of what caused the writer to
pen those words.
