that surrounded the Casablanca eco-
nomic peace process and Israel's new
place in this region? The fact is, no
serious economist ever took it serious-
ly — the Arab states may have a corn-
mon language, religion and culture
from Morocco to Iraq but, said one
analyst, "they don't trade with one
another. Mostly they scarcely speak to
one another. Israel is not a natural
belonger in the Middle East."

Romania Seeks
Israeli Investors

Jerusalem (JPFS) — The Romanian
government is to sell all of its hold-
ings in more than 2,000 companies
by the end of the year, in a process
that is to be open to foreign
investors, including those from Israel,
according to officials at the
Romanian Embassy in Israel.
"Israeli investors will likely be most
interested in companies involved in
telecommunications, such as the
national phone company RomTelcom,
but also in real estate and agriculture,"
said Dorin Refca, the embassy's eco-
nomic attache.
There is money to be made by
investors who can successfully imple-
ment modernization of technology
used in Romanian companies, he
added. Romania has the advantage of
a relatively large population of 23 mil-
lion and a technically trained work-
force, he said.

Israel, Jordan
Industrial Park

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Israel and Jordan
have agreed to establish a $280 mil-
lion industrial park on both sides of
the Jordan River.
Details of the park were finalized
during a meeting between National
Infrastructure Minister Ariel Sharon
and Jordanian Water and Irrigation
Minister Munther Haddadin, who is
responsible for joint projects with
Israel.
The park, to be located alongside
the Sheikh Hussein bridge, is one of a
number of plans currently under dis-
cussion, with others including a canal
between the Dead and Red seas and a
train line from the Dead Sea to the
Gulf of Eilat.
The park, which will be a free-trade
zone, will be developed by a cross-bor-
der firm — Jordan Gateway Project
Co.
