somewhat of a secret with its dishes
not seen at any Indian restaurant in
this area.
Among the favorites are Bhel Puri,
a mixture of rice crisps, lentil vermi-
celli, onions, tortilla crisps and pota-
toes tossed in sweet and spicy chut-
neys ... And Pani Puri, bite-size puffed
flour shells stuffed with a spicy, lemo-
ny juice and sweet chutney.
Salaam Bombay is owned by Jasmet
"Kitty" Hingorani, who does the
cooking from recipes of her northern
Indian grandmother ... The restau-
rant's tandoori oven makes the low-fat
chicken, bread and kabobs ... And
southern Indian dishes have also been
picked up because of their lightness.
THE EVERY YEAR clothing drive
to benefit the homeless by Guys N'
Gals, owned by Lois Levenson and
Julie Feldman in the Orchard Mall on
Orchard Lake Road, is Friday, June
12, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Folks can trade in old jeans (clean,
without holes) for new ones at half-
price ... Other clothing, plus bedding,
small furniture, toys, etc., will also be
taken ... This year's beneficiaries are
Jewish Family Service and a homeless
shelter in Pontiac.
IF YOU WONDERED why Tony
Jerome was celebrating at Andiamo
West, it is because he has been made
president of the Tamaroff Group.
Of course Tony, who has been with
Mary Tamaroff since 1977, goes there
for another reason too ... His daugh-
ter, Jennifer Peterson, is a hostess on
Friday and Saturday evenings and one
day during the week.
Also promoted was Dan Corby, now
Tamaroff's vice-president... Mary
Tamaroff is still chairman of the board.
REUNION DEPT. ... Central
High's 50th reunion, classes of 1948,
is Sept. 5 at Glen Oaks Country Club
... Call Marvin Horwitz, (248) 851-
2116; Ann (Lesnick) Carol, (248)
960-4142; Marilyn (Wolfe) Cherney,
(248) 626-5550; Gerald Granadier
(248) 626-8868; or Marilyn (Hilson)
Kaplansky (248) 360-4367.
NOW COMES lake perch to Hoa
Kow of West Bloomfield in Cross-
winds Mall ... Sauteed or with black
bean sauce ... and skinless too ... If
owner Gene Woo hits just a small por-
tion of his white fish count he'll be
one happy gent.
SECOND SITE of the popular
Beans & Cornbread restaurant on
Northwestern is slated to open around
August in the Southfield and Eight
Mile area ... It'll be called Mo' Beans
& Cornbread.
