Alexandra Soufrine Hurwitz of Bloom-
field Hills will become a bat mitzvah on
Saturday, June 6, at Temple Beth El.
Alexandra is the
daughter of Joanee
and Stephen Hur-
witz and the sister
of Bill, Ed and the
late Amanda.
Proud grandpar-
ents are Shirley
and Maury Gor-
don and Helene
Hurwitz. She also
is the granddaughter of the late Albert
H. Soufrine and the late William Hur-
witz.
Alexandra is a seventh-grader at
Cranbrook Kingswood Middle School.
Her interests include dancing, music,
drama and travel.
In recognition of her bat mitzvah,
Alexandra is making a personal dona-
tion to Haven of Oakland County and
the Children's Leukemia Foundation in
honor of her late sister.

the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Saturday,

Mara Stephanie Deutch will be bat
mitzvah at Havdalah services on Satur-
day, June 6, at Temple Beth El. Rabbi
David Castiglione
and Cantor
Stephen Dubov
will lead the ser-
vice.
Participating in
the service will be
Math parents,
Audrey and Gor-
don Deutch and
her little brother,
Ian. Mara is the granddaughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Miklos Foltyn and
the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Deutch.
Mara is a student at Berkshire Mid-
dle School where she plays trumpet in
the school band. Her other interests
include playing piano, listening to
music, dancing, reading and AOL.
As part of her mitzvah project, Mara
participated in the Lawson Youth Insti-
tute, helping to distribute clothing to
the needy.
