The last time in history an
automaker was boycotted by Jews
(Ford in 1927 after the series of
"International Jew" libels appeared in
Henry Ford's Dearborn Independent),
the boycott was successful enough to
force Ford himself to publicly recant
(for a time) his slanders.
Glieberman fears the lasting impact
of any boycott by Jews against
Daimler-Benz or Chrysler. He is con-
cerned that among Germans, it will
fuel the spectre of Jewish economic
control which Hitler manipulated in
the post-Weimar years.
Rabbi Charles Rosenzveig, the
founding director of the Holocaust
Memorial Center in West Bloomfield,
is also a voice of reason.
"If this company (Daimler-Benz)
today is different from what it used to
be, it is up to them to prove it.
Whether or not there is any change
still remains to be seen," said the
rabbi.

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Despite the cur-
rent slowdown in peace negotiations,
Tel Aviv will become the air hub of
the Middle East, a senior executive of
Air Canada predicted.
Jean-Jacques Bourgeault, senior
executive vice-president of the compa-
ny, was visiting for the inauguration of
Air Canada's twice-weekly flights
between Montreal and Tel Aviv. He
said he expected the peace talks to get
back on track.
The development of Tel Aviv into
such a hub would, he said, be in keep-
ing with Air Canada's policy of direct-
ing flights to regional centers in coop-
eration with other airlines. The hubs
enable passengers to conveniently
make connections.
Air Canada is part of the Star
Alliance, in which Lufthansa is a key
member.
The Montreal-Tel Aviv flight
arrangements bring to seven the num-
ber of weekly Air Canada flights to
Israel. It was only with the availability
of a . daily flight, Bourgeault said, that
the company could hope to attract
business traffic.
The entry of Air Canada into the
market formerly controlled by El Al
has actually benefitted both companies
at the expense of some of the
European airlines and resulted in an
increase in the number of passengers,
he said.
