Study Program
Enrollees
Twenty-four Michigan students will
leave for study-programs in Israel this
summer under the auspices of the
Zionist Organization of America,
Metropolitan Detroit District.
Enrolled in the Masada/Maccabi
summer program of the ZOA are:
Kate Bush, David Freedland, Jeffrey
Gutman, Zoe Stein and Julie Zimmer-
man. Scholarship recipients who will
participate in other Israel-based pro-
grams are: Aviva Abrams, Rachel Blu-
menfeld, Chana Borenstein, Shira
Feigelman, Stephanie Fidler, Bat-Sheva
Fine, Nomi Greenfield, Scott Kass,
Brian A. Kloc, Rachel Last, Tamar
Moreton, Elisheva Perecman, Devorah
Radner, Steven Schostak, Judith Hor-
witz, Eric Sirota, Boris Vald, Judith
Waknine and Shoshana Weisberg.
In addition, Metro Detroit ZOA
has, for the first time, granted scholar-
ships to qualified students enrolled in
ZOA's Kfar Silver educational campus
near Ashkelon, Israel. The Israeli
scholarship recipients are: Sheli Aflalo,
Aurit Havian, Tamar Godofeker, Shai
Levitan, Einav Peretz, Sabine Van
Opstel, Ronit Yochananov, Etti Farage
and Tamar Konovlov.
Machon L' Torah
Events Planned
Machon L'Torah, the Jewish Learning
Network of Michigan, will hold the
next lecture of its JudaiCollege educa-
tional session 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, June
2, at the JPM JCC. Rabbi Avraham
Jacobovitz will lead the lecture on
"Life-Cycles: Birth, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs,
Weddings, & Mourning."
As part of the JudaiCollege spring
semester, Machon L'Torah will hold
the next class of its crash course in
basic Hebrew 7:30 p.m. Thursday,
June 4, at the JPM JCC. Jeff Perlstein
will lead this series. Reservations are

No previous Jewish educational back-
ground or knowledge of Hebrew is
required for any of the classes.
There is a registration fee.
In celebration of its 18th anniver-
sary, Machon L'Torah will produce a
documentary video "Heroes of Sur-
vival and Revival." It will be screened
at Macon L'Torah's annual banquet
Tuesday, June 23, at the Ramada

Israel during summer break with
Rabbi and Mrs. Jacobovitz. The tour
will depart Detroit Sunday, Aug. 16,

HMC Hosts
Exhibit, Lecture
The Holocaust Memorial Center will
sponsor a lecture by author and schol-
ar Michael C. Steinlauf 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, June 11, at the Kahn Jewish
Community Center, West Bloomfield.
Appearing in conjunction with the
Holocaust Memorial Center's special
photographic exhibit, "And I Still See
Their Faces: Images of Polish Jews,"
Dr. Steinlauf will speak on "Recover-
ing a Lost World: The Civilization of
Eastern Ashkenaz."
Michael Steinlauf, a senior
research fellow at the YIVO Institute
for Jewish Research in New York,
writes and teaches about Jewish histo-
ry and culture in Eastern Europe and
Polish-Jewish relations. Fluent in Yid-
dish and Polish, he has been a Ful-
bright Fellow in Poland and has rep-
resented the United States Holocaust
Memorial Museum. He has taught at
the University of Michigan at Ann
Arbor, Brandeis University, Gratz
College, and Franklin and Marshall
College.
The exhibit will run through Sun-
day, June 14, and can be viewed Sun-
day-Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and
Friday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Admission is
free.
The public is invited to the lecture;
reservations are not necessary. There is
no charge for the event. The lecture
facility is barrier free.
Bel Canto
In Concert
The Bel Canto Choral Group will
host its annual spring musicale, which
is open to the public at no charge, 8
p.m. Monday, June 8, at Congregation
Beth Achim.
The Bel Canto Choral Group is
directed by Eugene Branstrom; the
accompanist is Rochelle Barr.
