Postponed Again

Moscow (JTA) — A Lithuanian judge
granted a second postponement of the
trial of an alleged Nazi war criminal.
The trial of Aleksandras Lileikis,
91, was slated to begin in the Lithuan-
ian capital of Vilnius. But a judge in
the case granted an adjournment of
one month to allow investigators to
finish examining recently obtained
documents.

New York (JTA) — The Swiss Nation-
al Bank refused to withdraw a new
1,000-franc note that critics charge
honors an anti-Semite.
Bank officials said plans for the
note, which features a picture of 19th-
century historian Jacob Burckhardt,
had been made public in 1989, long
before the country became the target
of criticisms from Jewish groups
regarding its financial dealings during
World War II.
The officials said Burckhardt's
works should be examined in total
before issuing criticism of him.

urged all political parties to unite to
defeat the threat posed by right-wing
extremism.
The remarks come after the Ger-
man People's Union garnered 13 per-
cent of the vote in state elections last

Argentina Recalls
Diplomats In Iran

Buenos Aires (JTA) — Argentina
recalled all but one of its diplomats
from Iran because of "increasing cer-
tainties" of Iranian involvement in two
bombing attacks on Jewish sites in
Buenos Aires.
Iran retaliated by saying it would
reduce its economic ties with Argenti-
na. The 1992 bombing of the Israeli
Embassy in Buenos Aires and the
1994 bombing of a Jewish community
center there killed 115 people.
