Jim Barnett of West
Bloomfield was back at
work, feeling a little dis-
comfort but no pain.
"I've had worse times getting a 1_,

recalled of the 15-minute operation.
Barnett was the beneficiary of a pro-
cedure that, because it does not require
an incision or stitches, greatly reduces
the side effects of an operation that is
done on more than half a million men
in the United States every year.
Many men who are considering the
procedure fear the pain and multi-days
recovery period, and some worry --,
about reports that vasectomies may
contribute to the development of ath-
erosclerosis, kidney stones, testicular
cancer and prostate cancer. But the
