Construction is expected to begin this
summer, pending approval from West
Bloomfield township, on the Peter and
Dorothy Brown Adult Day Care Center
for older adults with Alzheimer's disease
and other dementia disorders.
Operated by the Jewish Home and
Aging Services and Jewish Vocational
Service, the adult day care center will
accommodate up to 35 participants
daily on the Maple/Drake campus and
provide structured, stimulating and
therapeutic activities in a Jewish setting.
The state-of-the-art facility will be
attached to the Fleischman Residence
and will have a secure outdoor court-
yard, home-like atmosphere and design,
residential kitchen, living room, dining
room, den and sun porches.
Land for the Brown Center was pro-
vided by the United Jewish Foundation.
A second day care program site will
be established at the Rose and Sidney
Diem Jewish Vocational Service Build-
ing in Southfield.
The programs are designed to maxi-
mize the participants' self-esteem and
abilities through health monitoring,
social and cultural activities, holiday cel-
ebrations, exercise, field trips, cooking,
gardening and music, art and pet thera-

respite to caregivers, who will be able
to take a break from the round-the-
clock responsibilities of caring for a
frail loved one.
The Commission on Jewish Elder-
care Services is a participant in the plan-
ning process for the adult day care pro-
gram. COJES is a partnership of the
Jewish Federation, United Jewish Foun-
dation and the following Federation
constituent agencies that provide ser-
vices to older adults: Jewish Communi-
ty Center, Jewish Family Service, Jewish
Federation Apartments, Jewish Home
and Aging Services, Jewish Vocational
Service together with DMC-Sinai Hos-
pital.

The Commission on Jewish Eldercare
Services (COJES), in conjunction with
the Detroit Jewish News, is seeking
entries for its creative writing contest
about personal well being.
The contest is being held as part of
the COJES community education day
to be held 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at
the Kahn Jewish Community Center.

Theme of the contest is "My Keys to
Well Being." Entry deadline is Aug. 14,
1998.
Contest rules are as follows: Entrants
must describe their Keys to Well Being
in 500 words or less. Each entry must
be typed or printed legibly (on a sepa-
rate sheet of paper). First, second and
third place prizes will be awarded.
Entrants must be 21 or older. Entries
will be judged on creativity, originality
and relevance to the topic. The official
form must accompany each entry.
Reproductions of this form are accept-
able. Employees or family members of
COJES agencies or the Detroit Jewish
