Henry Ford Hospital.
Hurwitz was nominated
for an Emmy and won
three Telly Awards in 1996
for industrial films. He ran
both an advertising agency
and video production
company until his death
on Dec. 18.

Oakland County residents
donated 167,000 pounds
of food in a collection
drive May 9 that was spon-
sored by the National
Association of Letter Carriers and the
U.S. Postal Service.
The food was distributed to the
Food Bank of Oakland County and

Vic Hurwitz in 1996 with his three Telly Awards.

The National Academy of Arts and
Sciences presented a posthumous
Governor's Award to Victor Hurwitz
at the regional Emmy Awards ceremo-

Daniel Levy's bar mitzvah party last
Saturday turned into a $1,940 wind-
fall for Forgotten Harvest.
The organization, which delivers
surplus food to area food banks for
the hungry, was the beneficiary when
Daniel's parents, Dr. Robert and
Linda Levy of Farmington Hills,
decided to hold Daniel's party at
Hotel Baronette, even though they did
not meet the minimum spending
requirement. The Levys made up the
financial difference, but what to do
with the extra food? When they asked
if it could be donated, manager Kathy-
Charnley and Unique Restaurant
Corporation's Matt Prentice suggested
Forgotten Harvest, even calling the
organization to find out what foods
were most needed.

The Cohodas family of Marquette not
only helped Northern Michigan Uni-
versity collect a vast amount of Holo-
caust-related books, tapes, articles and
other materials for its library, but has
funded a Web site to showcase the
materials.
In 1975, the university approached
Bill Cohodas about obtaining a speak-
er on the Holocaust. Since then,
Rabbi Yitz Greenberg, Simon Wiesen-
thal and Eli Wiesel, among others,
have visited NMU, and the history
department now teaches a course on
the Holocaust.

Cantor Chaim Najman of Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek will join 21 other
cantors on stage at Carnegie Hall for
its first-ever cantorial concert June 8.
The concert is part of a five-day
festival of song that begins June 7 to
mark the 50th anniversary of the 450-
member Cantors Assembly. -
The 22 hazzanim, accompanied by
a choir and orchestra, will present a
wide repertoire of cantorial master-
pieces.
