The AppleTree is in search of
great ideas for those wonderful
: days of swimming and ice cream
and sleeping late and staying up
late.
Do you have a favorite spot in
metro Detroit that you visit each
summer? Do you have a great
I recipe for everyone's favorite sum-
: mer food, snow cones? Can you
recommend a great video for a
summer day that's rainy? Do you
know a great game that you like

and for their help in the building of
Israel.
By her early 20s, my hero moved
to what was then called Palestine,
since she felt she could best con-

was physically there. She was
strong-willed, and even when times
I were at their worst she held on to
I what she believed and kept trying .
harder to achieve her dreams.
I These qualities paid off, for not only
did Israel become a state, which
I she strived so hard to accomplish,
but she also became its first female
prime minister. She showed that a
young person could be strong and
have an influence and that a
I woman could be an important
world leader.
Her name is Golda Meir. She
died a fulfilled woman, a hero.
Without her, Israel may not yet
1 have become a state, and many
women and girls may not have pur-
1 sued their dreams. She taught me
that one person can make a differ-

ence. She is a teacher not only to
me, but to the Jewish people and to
religions everywhere, and it is for
these reasons that I look up to her.

Danny Kornfeld
Danny Weis is my Jewish hero
1 because he was My counselor at
1 overnight camp this past summer.
: He helped me with sports. Danny
taught me how to throw a foot-
ball. He cheered me up when I
felt sad.
He's nice. He is the best coun-
t selor even though he wasn't on my
I team in color wars.
Second Place -
Meagan Bebchuk
Mrs. Traub is my Jewish hero
because she taught me lots of
Hebrew.
She makes school fun. She is a
