OF METROPOLITAN DETROIT • Join the Memorial Services Honor War Dead Memorial Day Services for the Michi- gan Jewish War Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary will be joined by the Jewish War Veterans of the Royal Canadian Legion and Jewish Veterans from the oviet Union 10 a.m. Sunday, May 24, at Machpelah Cemetery, 21503 Woodward, Ferndale, followed by a service at noon at Hebrew Memorial Park Cemetery, 21503 E. 14 Mile Road, Mt. Clemens. Cantor Max Shemansky of Congre- gation Beth Achim will sing memorial prayers with members of the JWV Honor Guard offering a rifle salute. Services at Machpelah will conclude with students from neighboring Fern- dale High School blowing taps. Rabbi Herbert Yoskovitz will pre- side at Machpelah and Rabbi Yehuda Levin will offer services at Hebrew Memorial. The event will be under the direction of State Commissioner Iry Marshall and Auxiliary President Flo- rence Weber with chairmanship by Jack Schwartz and Milton Klein. The Canadian contingent will be led by Izzy Sigel and the Russians by Arkadi Ungeberg. The services are open to everyone with friends and relatives of deceased veterans especially urged to attend. Refreshments will be served following the Hebrew Memorial service. In the event of rain, services will be indoors. Children's Art On Calendar Artistic children of Michigan and their peers in our community's Partnership 2000 region of Israel's Central Galilee have teamed up for a joint celebration of Israel's 50th anniversary. Students from Hillel Day School, Akiva Hebrew Day School and the Hebrew Day School of Ann Arbor, along with children from the Hazav School, Gilad School and Shalom Ale- ichem School in Israel, contributed artwork for a colorful 18-month cal- endar. Artwork from the calendar will be displayed now through May 22, in the lobby of the Kahn Jewish Community Center. A portion of the artwork will be on exhibit May 26-June 10, at the Hebrew Day School of Ann Arbor. Another exhibit of the children's art will be at the Israel Fest at the Detroit Zoo, June 14, beginning at 6 p.m. Cost of the calendar is $15. A lim- ited number of calendars is available. Senior Send-off Planned For Fall To ease the transition between high school and college and to promote Jewish life on campus, Jewish students who will enter a university this fall are invited to participate in the Senior Send-off service. Participants will be welcomed by the Hillel Foundation on the college campus of their choice, informed of and invited to participate in Jewish activities at their respective universi- ties. - The names of graduating Jewish high school seniors will be published with a congratulatory message from Federation this summer in the Detroit Jewish News. The award ceremonies are being held to help commemorate Israel's 50th and the ZOA's 100th anniver- saries. The dinner is sponsored by the Zionist Organization of America, Detroit Metropolitan District, Shaarit Haplaytah (Holocaust Sur- vivors) and CHAIM (Children of Holocaust Survivors Association of Michigan).
