their heads together.

Thursday mornings,
Yeshiva Beth Yehudah
first-graders say goodbye
to their regular teachers and head
for the school's belt midrash to study
Bible with their sixth-grade counter-
parts.
Each first-grader is matched with
a sixth-grader in order to review the
parsha and commentary the first
grade is studying in class.
"It gives the younger children
the chance to have a big brother
figure and learn with someone
older, which makes them feel very
good," said Principal Rabbi
Avraham Cohen of the hevruta
program, which started five years
ago. 'And it keeps the sixth-
graders on their toes, too, because
in order to help the little ones,
they really have to know the mater-
ial well themselves." ❑
