By Ivan Menchell

Chopped
Liverpool

Directed by Susan Arnold

This endearing comedy is the most fun
you'll ever have at a cemetery!

Paul McCartney's
encounter with
noodle kugel.

"Ahhh," says Paul, "it's been such a
long time since we've had a nice
noodle kugel. Would you be need-
ing any help, mum?" he asks, con-
siderately.
Paul is Paul McCartney, and
Elaine Sepal's She Loves You: A
Curious Tale Concerning a
Miraculous Intervention, drawings
by Lance Richbourg (Simon and
Shuster; $16.95), might be the first
book ever to have the Beatles and a
kugel in the same sentence.
Segal, who writes and produces
radio plays and commentaries for
National Public Radios's "All
Things Considered" has written a
fairy tale — "a novel poured into a
thimble" — that speaks to the fan-
tasy of every child of the '60s.

DRAWINGS BY LANCE

Their limousine driver confused
by directions, the Beatles pull up in
front of the narrator's suburban
home to use the phone. John, Paul,
George and Ringo stay for dinner;
they help her mother with the dish-
es and also help in healing the rift
between father and daughter.
Richbourg's pen and ink draw-
ings are at once whimsical and seri-
ous, evoking laughter and nostalgia.
The book is hard to categorize: It's
appealing to both kids and their
parents. To call it a Jewish book
might be a stretch, but the kugel —
and the story — prove irresistible.
