MEmOriEs Memories Of Israel Readers tell us some of their most unforgettable moments in and favorite recollections of Israel. "We will always remember our trip to Israel. What a wonderful time we had there! We were on the 1995 Michigan Miracle Mission II. We didn't miss a thing in Israel. We were up at 6 a.m. and didn't get back until 10 each night. It was non-stop sightseeing, and we loved every single minute of it! (We finally got a rest at the Dead Sea mud baths.)" Photo by Arlene Beerman. "On my trip to Israel, I planted a tree in Jerusalem. I got to ride a camel in Jericho. I floated in the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea was very hot! But the Red Sea was very cold! I rode a cable car to the top of Masada. My favorite place was Tel Aviv. We stayed at the Carlton Hotel. Tel Aviv is a pretty busy city. People park their cars on the sidewalk. We were on a tour, and our tour guide% name was Moti. We ate salad for breakfast, but my favorite foods in Israel were pizza and falafel. I turned 8 in Israel on June 27. We saw lots of soldiers everywhere we went. We went to Yad Vashem. It was a very sad place. We went on a Jeep ride in the Galilee, and we stopped at a kibbutz and a farm. There are lots of stray cats in Israel. At Latrun, we saw a lot of army tanks and we got to climb on them. If you go to Israel, it takes a long time on the plane. Be sure to carry water with you." Our people wandered here for 40 years. It's Israel. I went there in the summer of 1997. We took a tour, and we spent 16 days there. My sister, Natalie, and I were the only children,/ on the tour. I loved Eilat because it was the hottest place we visited, and it had a great boardwalk. I really loved Tel Aviv (it was my favorite city). Tel Aviv is big and lively. We stayed in a really great hotel in Tel Aviv. I loved seeing the signs that said Hercules in Hebrew because I could read them. At the Carmel Market in Tel Aviv, a man selling fish posed for my dad to take a picture. Masada was very hot. I loved the cable- car ride to the top of Masada. From the top of Masada, a big tour bus looks like an ant! I saw a mikveh at Masada. The Dome of the Rock was one of the most interesting sites. We had to take off our shoes to go inside. There, you could see the rock where Abraham was supposed to sac ‹ rifice his son, Isaac. We had to wear dress- es to visit the Western Wall. I put a mes- sage in a crack in the Western Wall. It was hard to do because all of the cracks were filled with paper. In Israel, they have traditional falafel, but they also have pizza and French fries. The breakfasts had yogurt, fruits, pastries and cereal. c, My favorite food was vegetables rolled up in a flaky dough. Israel was a wonderful experience, and I hope to go back some day." - Sarah Kahn, 10, of Huntington Woods. (Sarah is in fifth grade at Burton Elementary School and attends Temple Emanu-El)
