by David M. Satterfield of the United
States Department of State 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, May 14, at the Jimmy
Prentis Morris Jewish Community
Center. The talk is sponsored by the
Dr. Leon and Hilda Lucas JPM Israel
Endowment Fund. The lecture is
coordinated by the Institute for
Retired Professionals.
Mr. Satterfield is the office director
for Israel and Arab Israeli Affairs. The
public is invited at no charge to the
lecture and reception.

the State of Israel and the 100th
anniversary of the Zionist Organiza-
tion of America will be held 5:30 p.m.

Beth Shalom.

ZOA, Shaarit Haplaytah (Holocaust
Survivors of Detroit) and CHAIM
(Children of Holocaust Survivors
Association of Michigan), the pro-
gram will include an award presenta-
tion to Americans who served
with the IDF in the War of Indepen-
dence in 1948. Music will be
provided by Sam Barnett and his
orchestra.

American Matchmaker, a film comedy,
will be shown 12:45 p.m. Sunday, May
3, at the JPM. There is no charge.

the Detroit Medical Center will offer
Healthy Living, a health and wellness
program 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 3:
Baby massage.
A Mother's Day concert will be pre-
sented by the JCC Intergenerational
Choir 2 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at Con-
gregation Beth Shalom. There is a $2
charge.
"One Day At A Time" is a class for
women who meet to discuss the posi-
tive aspects of growing older. Each
week, a different theme is discussed.
There is no fee. This class meets at the
Jewish Community Center in Oak
Park every Wednesday at 11 a.m. Judy
Kotzen, director of Space for Changing
Families, will lead this class.
Selma Goode
Is Honored
Selma Goode, district chairperson of
the Workmen's Circle/Arbeter Ring for
over 15 years and community activist
for over 40 years, will be honored 2-4
p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the Oak Park
Corrimunity Center on Oak Park Blvd.
The celebration is being held to
mark her activism, her handing over the
leadership of the Michigan Workmen's
Circle to the next generation and her
75th birthday.
Selma is well known in the Jewish
and labor communities as the staff per-
son of the Jewish Labor Committee.
She is a supporter of the rights of wel-
fare mothers, striking workers, and an
active advocate for national health
insurance.
The festivities will include dessert,
Jewish folk dancing with Harriet Berg,
songs by Ellen Sandweiss-Hodges. Tick-
ets are $15, and proceeds will go to the
Workmen's Circle Educational Center.
Citizenship
Ceremony
Members of the Jewish community will
join with the Asian communities in
Metro Detroit and the Detroit Coali-
tion for'Responsible Immigration Poli-
cy 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, to spon-
sor a swearing-in ceremony for new
U.S. citizens at the Bharatiya Temple
(Hindu), 6850 N. Adams Road
(between Square Lake Road and South
Boulevard) in Troy.
The coalition, convened by the Jew-
ish Community Council, is comprised -
of representatives from the Arab, Asian,
Chaldean, Jewish, Hispanic and Polish
communities. The ceremony will be
one of the community activities to cele-
brate May as Asian Pacific Heritage
Month. U.S. District Court Judge
Bernard Friedman will conduct the
swearing-in ceremony.
War veterans of different ethnic
backgrounds will lead the participants
in the Pledge of Allegiance. Children
of the Detroit Oriental Arts School
will give dance performances. A recep-
tion following the program will offer
pastries from the various ethnic groups
represented. The event is open to the
public.
