He is the son of John and Suzie Potter and the brother of Josh Potter. Ben's proud grandpar- ents are Sylvia and Morrey Serwin. Ben attends Norup Middle School, where he is on the track team. He enjoys being online, • skateboarding, snowboarding and music. For his mitzvah project, Ben vol- unteers at Detroit Radio Information Services, where he reads stories and news and magazine articles for broadcast to blind and visually impaired persons. In recognition of his bar mitzvah, Ben is making a personal donation to the Food Bank of Oakland County to help feed the needy in his community. Mara Kurlandsky Mara Naomi Kurlandsky will be called to the Torah on Saturday, May 2, in honor of becoming a bat mitz- vah at Congregation Ahavas Israel, in Grand Rapids. She is the daugh- ter of Ruth and Larry Kurlandsky and the sister of Shana and Hillel. Proud grandpar- ents are Sam Kurlandsky of Kalamazoo and Joe and Shirley Gould of Skokie, Ill. She also is the granddaughter of the late Bernice Kurlandsky. Mara's mitzvah project was work- ing with the dogs and cats at the Kent County Humane Society. She attends East Grand Rapids Middle School, where she has worked on the yearbook and plays cornet in the band.
