is about to take on a fourth
rabbi.
Fresh out of the Jewish
Theological Seminary, Rabbi Joseph
H. Krakoff will bring his family to
Michigan this summer and start his
new job in August.
The 2,000-family Conservative
Shaarey Zedek hired another rabbi
out of need, said Rabbi Irwin
Groner. It does not signify any
thoughts of retirement on Grorier's
part, who is the senior rabbi. The
shul also is looking for a new cantor,
he said, although that process has
just begun.
The decision to hire Krakoff
represents our interest in reaching
out to our younger families and the
young people in the congregation,
particularly in light of the develop-
ment of the Laker Education and
Youth Complex" in West
Bloomfield, said Groner. Along with
the usual rabbinic responsibilities,
Krakoff will concentrate on educa-
tion and youth programming. His
base will be in Southfield, but he
will focus on many projects in the
Laker building.

all of those things is what a rabbi is
and does, and so in college I renewed
my desire to become a rabbi," he said.
Krakoff, who is married and has a
14-week-old daughter, grew up in a
non-observant home, where the majo:' \
Jewish holidays were celebrated. "I was
the one who went to Shabbos ser-
vices," he said.
