Show Me The
Afikomen!
Students in Rabbi Eleazar burden's third-grade class at
Akiva Hebrew Day School tell what they like best about Pesach.
Jacob Kohn,
8-1 /2, of West
Bloomfield
"I like finding the
afikomen. Some-
times we get
money when we
find it. I save my money or I'll get
something. This year I'd like to get
a yo-yo.
Yochanan
Linden, 8-1 /2,
of Oak Park
"Well, really I like
the bitter foods. I
like eating the eggs
and the parsley. I
also like shmura matzoh."
Yair Hillman, 9,
of Southfield
"I like eating the
matzah best. I like
cream cheese on
top of mine. I also
like matzah pizza."
Gavriel
Tennenberg, 9,
of Oak Park
"What I like is
when you get a
prize for finding the
afikomen, a prize
like a basketball. I hide the
afikomen then my father finds it. I
also like eating matzah with cream
cheese that has those pieces of fruit
in it. I did have stuff everywhere
before Pesach, but my Mom
cleaned it all uti. No, I didn't help
her."
Josh Winer, 8,
of Oak Park
"I like going to
sleep after the
Seder best. I like
matzoh with salt. I
do not like matzah
with cream cheese.
I do not like matzah pizza. I do not
like chocolate matzah. I don't like a
lot of things, but what I do like that
I can eat on Pesach is matzah."
Ari Jacobovitz,
8-1/2, of Oak Park
"The best part of
Pesach is drinking
the Kiddush. I have
wine and grape
juice mixed. I also
like eating matzah with salt and but-
ter. I had fun cleaning for Pesach. I
cleaned my room, the table and my
closet. I got rid of my old toys. I
even found my old wallet and it
had a little money in it, too, and I
found some Back to the Future
cards. I'm never going to sell
those."
Dov Weiss, 8,
of Oak Park
"The best part of
Pesach is eating
matzah with jelly
spread on top."
Saadyah
Abrams, 9,
of West Bloomfield
"I like the afikomen
mostly because I
usually find it and
when I do I don't
get presents I get money and I go
and buy what I want. My grandfa-
ther lives in New Orleans and I like
it when he comes because he's got
a hiding place [for the afikomen]
behind this picture and I always
find it. I also like pigging out on
matzah; it's fun. I like my matzah
with vegetable cream cheese.
What I don't like is the cleaning
part. I don't do that much. I mean,
getting every little crumb — that's a
lot of work. Usually my older sister
does some but she's in Israel. My
other sister helps and sometimes
me, but mostly it's my parents."
Ahuvah
Blumenfeld, 9,
of Oak Park
"What I like best is
when you hide the
afikomen. My
prize is going to
the movies or once I got a bike and
I always ride it. I stay up for the
whole seder. I never fall asleep, but
just in case I do I bring a pillow to
the table."
like eating matzah;
I like mine plain.
Usually, I fall
asleep at the
seder, and my
mom takes me up
to my bed."
Vicki Beneson,
8, of Southfield
"The best part of
Pesach is finding
the afikomen.
When I find it I
get, well, I don't
know. Well, I have a Samantha
doll and sometimes I get clothes for
her. Cleaning? No, I don't like it.
[Just before the holiday] my room is
a big mess, as usual."
Dena Cohen, 8-
1 /2, of Oak Park
"The best part of
Pesach is eating
matzah. I like mine
with cream cheese.
At the seder, I get
to have one cup of wine and the
rest is grape juice. I-stay awake for
the whole seder."
Leora Flatt, 8, of Oak Park
"I like finding the afikomen. Once I
got a bicycle when I found it. I also
