Federation Grants
Aid Projects
The Jewish Federation of Metropoli-
tan Detroit has approved six grants
totaling $118,500 from its Max M.
Fisher Jewish Community Founda-
tion.
The funds will go for a variety of
projects sponsored by agencies, orga-
nizations and congregations. Grants
are given for innovative projects.

Recipients are as follows: A grant of
$21,000 -went to the Janice Charach
Epstein Museum/Gallery for youth
education. A second-year request, the
museum/gallery will use the funds to
develop programs for children in pre-
schools, day schools and religious
schools.
The Fresh Air Society received a
second-year grant of $20,000 for its
scholar-in-residence program, which
brings in six scholars who each spend
a week with campers, staff and board
members. Scholars spend one day at
the Jewish Community Center Day
Camp and train counselors and staff
in developing ongoing informal Jew-
ish education programs.
COJES (Commission on Jewish
Eldercare Services) will use its first-
time grant of $25,000 to train home
health workers to be sensitive to the
religious and cultural needs of their
clients.
With its first-year grant of
$22,500, the Daniel Sobel Friendship
Circle will expand its respite assis-
tance to families with special needs
children.
The Agency for Jewish Education's
Community Consortium for Adult
Education will develop a monthly
calendar to be published in The
Detroit Jewish News to provide the
community with information about
available programs and how to partic-
ipate. The agency received $15,000
in grant funds.
A grant of $15,000 will go to Ohr
Somayach for its Jerusalem Vision
program. The monies will be used for
video conferencing technologies to
create an international classroom.
Ohr Somayach will link scholars and
educators in Israel with Detroit.
