Medal In Ypsi

The husband-and-wife team of Sid
and Joyce Schulman, who swim for
the South Oakland Seals, took home
two golds and a silver at the Masters
State Swimming Championship at
Eastern Michigan University's Jones
Natatorium on March 27-29. Both
swimmers swam in the 65- to 69-
year-old division.
Sid, who has been swimming since
he was 15, took silver in the 50-yard
backstroke in 33.18 and gold in the
200 freestyle in 2:10.46. Both Joyce
and Sid were on the 200 mixed med-
ley relay team, which won the gold
medal in 2:28.26.
Joyce was on the 200 backstroke
relay team which won gold in
3:02.36. She finished second in the
50-yard backstroke with a time of
45.19.

Philip Horowitz, 59, bowled the first
300 game of the 1998 American
Bowling Conference Champions
Tournament in Reno, Nev.
The feat was accomplished in the
final game of his doubles match,
where he posted earlier scores of 175
and 213, It was his fifth career 300
game.
"I just took it one strike at a
time," he said. "When the last one
fell, I knew I had it."
Last summer, Horowitz was part
of the U.S. boWlinu team that trav-
eled to Israel for the Maccabiah
World Games, where he won a gold
medal.
