The Best Of Everything

This famous clothes horse stays close to his outfitter.

T

hey look like the oddest of
couples ... But one thing
both have in common ...
They love clothes.
Chuck Daly, former basketball
coach of the Detroit Pistons during
their championship days, former TV
basketball analyst, and now coach of
the Orlando Magic's NBA squad,
loves to wear them ... And is consid-
ered among the best-dressed sports
figures on television.
Dino Mitropoulos loves to make
clothes ... Especially those worn by
Chuck because he wears them so well
while showing the world Dino's tailor-
ing craftsmanship.
Although Chuck is in Orlando
coaching and on the golf courses as
much as possible, he and wife Terry
still maintain a home in West Bloom-
field.
Whenever he gets back to Michi-
gan, Chuck makes the rounds of his
favorite eating places ... Andiamo
West, where he celebrated the
appointment to his present position;
Tribute, where Terry made his 65th
birthday party; Capital Grille in his
favorite shopping sector, Somerset
Collection, and serving Chuck's pre-
ferred dish of steak and potatoes;
Ginopolis' On The Grille, where he
eats Montgomery ribs and shmoozes
with good friends Johnny and Pete
Ginopolis; Big Daddy's Parthenon,
where Chuck and Dino would meet
for lunch when it was called Chuck
Daly's Great Northern; and others.
Dee Shapiro, champion amateur
ballroom dancer, whose mantel at
home is so loaded with trophies that
the den floor may also start running
out of room, says Chuck sure doesn't
need terpsi lessons ... She danced with
him at Chuck and Terry's daughter
Cindy's wedding and says, "He can
really swing!" ... Chuck and Terry
have been married more than 40 years
and still cut a mean rug together on
the dance floor.
Dino goes under the name of Dino

BACK IN 1984, when Dee
Shapiro entered her first dance com-
petition, Chuck Daly took Dee aside
and gave her a real coach's pep talk
that has been a motivator for her to
this day.
He'll be glad to know that his
words of wisdom about relaxing and
having fun while doing what a person
does best were with Dee at the recent
17th annual Texas Challenge dance
tournament in Houston.
(Dee calls it the Texas Marathon
because she had to dance morning,
noon and night.)
Almost 5,000 dancers ... 7,000
entries ... and Dee brought home 51
trophies.
