hen a young girl is
found murdered, an
investigation reveals
that she has donated
eggs at a Los Angeles fertility clinic.

<

When that clinic is rumored
to be switching donor eggs
and the founder of the clinic,
Dr. Matthew Gordon, disap-
pears and his car is found
abandoned with his blood in
it, another investigation
ensues.

LAPD Detective John Barone
senses a connection between the
murdered girl and the doctor's dis-
appearance. He questions Dr. Lisa
Brockman, a doctor at the clinic
who happens to be Dr. Gordon's
fiancee. Lisa is an Orthodox Jew
who has strayed from her roots and
has begun to question her life and
estrangement from her faith. That
includes her engagement to
Matthew Gordon. Lisa's feelings
of guilt about her personal situ-
ation compel her to get
involved in the murder investi-
gation.
Mixing glimpses of the
Orthodox Jewish lifestyle with
issues of Halachah, ethics,
morality, religion and murder,
author Rochelle Krich has done
a masterful job of creating a fas-
cinating, fast-paced mystery
with up-to-the-minute over-
tones. Fans of author Faye
Kellerman's novels should buy
this one as well.
While she doesn't make light
of these heavy topics, she gives
us food for
thought, a
delightful read
and a new look
into the world of
the baal teshuvah
(returnee to
Orthodox
Judaism).
