Following graduation, Wallach took
the teaching exam, which he failed. So
when he was offered a scholarship to
acting school, he gladly accepted. "I
jumped at the chance and said,
`Broadway here I come!'"
The Broadway stage is exactly
where he wound up — over and over
again. After serving as a medical
administrator in the U.S. Army dur-
ing World War 11, he joined the
Neighborhood Playhouse in New
York, where he became close friends
with actor Tony Randall.
From there, his career skyrocketed.

New York stage, including Twice
Around the Park, Major Barbara,
Waltz of the Toreadors and The Rose

When asked if Mr. Green is one of
his favorite roles, the legendary actor
Qpauses for a moment, then smiles and
nods.
"I am very proud of the play," he
says. "And the audiences have been
very receptive. The other day I •
received a very flattering letter from a
woman who wrote: A lot of us sitting
