Smokey Robinson, the Righteous
Brothers, Mel Tillis, Suzanne Som-
mers, the Temptations, Tom Jones, the
Spinners, David Brenner, Spyro Gyra,
Tina Turner, Paul Anka, Dionne War-
wick ...among others in its beautiful
showcase showroom that sat over
1,000 people at tables on a sloped
floor allowing folks to see above the
tables in front of them.
Premier Center, located on Van
Dyke near 14 Mile in Sterling
Heights, was owned by Simon
Thomas and Lou Ciotti ... It didn't
serve food, just liquor, but was the
next best thing to sitting at a plush
Las Vegas showroom in its prime.
In 1983, many people in Bloom- c,—/
field became aware of a very intense
possibility that Stefan Becharas and
the Gallery Restaurant on W. 10 Mile,
east of Evergreen, would open in their
neck of the woods.
It would also be called the Gallery
Restaurant ... in Bloomfield Plaza on
Telegraph and Maple ... The former
locale of Angelo On The Plaza, Ginger
Man and Crickets was completely gut-_,
ted ... and Stefan opened within a
couple of months with a 120-seater.
He and the Gallery Restaurant are
still there ... stronger than ever ... with
good food, sensible prices ... and Ste-
fan still learning a new Jewish expres-
sion every day.
In 1982, Minnie's Seafood opened
on the site of the former Raven
Gallery and Bar-B-Q House of South---)
field, at Greenfield and 12 Mile (now
occupied by Sweet Lorraine's) ...
When Minnie's opened, customers
were told not to try entering through
the front ... That was the exit ... There
was plenty of parking in the rear ...
That was the front.
After it opened in 1982, Good
Earth restaurant in the former Tally
Hall, Orchard Lake Road and 14
Mile, had a problem ... Folks didn't
know what to call it ... A health food
restaurant or a natural food restaurant
... But whatever one called it, the
Good Earth made all its food the same
day for breakfast, lunch or dinner in a
decor that was breathtaking ... Live
ficus trees, natural woods ; etc.
After db's at Hyatt-Regency closed,
it became a well-received dinner-the-
ater by Jimmy Launce and his lovely
wife, Brigette.
The former db's had the best of
show business with Billy Eckstein, the
Mills Brothers, Joan Rivers, David
Brenner, etc. ... And certainly was fol-
lowed with the best of dinner-theater
with Jimmy and Brigette.
