A child's dream becomes a universal promise.

true, but they can turn into
books. Just ask Cindy Klein
Cohen, author of Daddy's
Promise (Promise Publications,
($12.95). Her son, Alec, had a dream
about his father who recently died. He
dreamed that a balloon lifted him in
the sky to meet with his father. His
father explained that although he is not
physically with him, he is always there
in spirit.
This dream and all of Alec's ques-
tions about his father's death became
Daddy's Promise.

mother or friend," explains Cohen,
who is a child life specialist at St.
Joseph Hospital in Pontiac. Ironically,
Cohen experienced exactly what she
counsels every day. Her husband, Joe
Cohen, died when her son Alec was 22
months old. As a child life specialist,
she often helps families cope with the
loss of a loved one.
"The book has a universal appeal. In
fact there has been an ecumenical

response. The rabbis think it's wonder-
ful, and the Catholic nuns I work with
believe it's beneficial, " says Cohen.
Cohen wrote the story with a col-
league, John T. Heiney. The illustra-
tions are by local architect Michael J.
Gordon.
"This is a much needed, amazingly
touching, helpful, loving story for chil-
dren of all ages," says Alicia Tisdale, a
child and family psychologist.
