Chanukah,
Oh Chanukah

.

Students in Temple Emanu-El's kinderGarten, with kindergarten
enrichment teacher Janet Sigmon and assistant Lois Greenberc, have
a definite favorite when it comes to Jewish holidays.

Elizabeth Applebaum
AppleTree Editor

Dylan Rittman, 5-1/12, of
Huntington Woods
"I like Chanukah
because you get lots
of presents. Last
Chanukah I got a
dart board, a pool
set, a foosball table,
a game book of Star Wars,
Monopoly and one more thing:
Stratego. That's everything."

Aaron Pickover,
6, of Southfield
"I like Chanukah
because I get a lot of
presents like baby
wild animals. I got a
lion, a rhino and a
little hippo and a little tiger."

Jason Schreiber,
5, of Royal Oak
"I like Chanukah
because you get lots
of presents. What did
I get last Chanukah?
Hmm. I forget.
"Also, I like to light the menorah.
My parents light the match, then put
it on the Chanukah candle and then
I light the menorah.
"I like to eat latkes with nothing
on them, and I like cookies. I don't
like spinach, but I'd try some."

Chase Gorland,
5, of Pleasant Ridge
"My favorite Jewish
holiday is Shabbat
because I get to see
the rabbi."

Todd Szlamkow-
icz, 6, of Huntington
Woods
"I like Chanukah
because I get to light
candles and I get pre-
sents. One time I got
a tent. I keep my ball in there."

Paige Rowin, 6,
of Huntington Woods
"I like Chanukah
because I get pre-
sents. My favorite
was one time I got a
twin doll; it was a
twin doll because it looked just like
me with the same color eyes but it
had a different shaped nose. I
bring it to places with my cousins
because they have twin dolls, too,
and we like to pretend that we're
orphans. Also, I got an American
Girl for my birthday and now I
have two: Samantha and Kristen.
The most exciting thing in the world
was when I got my ears pierced.
I'm going to be 7 in two months.
"My Grandma doesn't have
pierced earrings; she just has snap-
ons."
